The LHS senior class won the annual Powderpuff flag football tournament this year. After first beating the sophomore class with a score of 24-7, they took it to the championship level by playing the freshman class, and winning it all, 20-7. Kickoff started with the freshman versus junior class. Following them, the sophomores played the seniors.

LHS senior Powderpuff coach Hunter Metz said that he appreciated the seniors and was impressed with their performance.
“We dominated everyone; we only allowed two touchdowns and scored on every drive other than one. We won the turnover battle, which helped us win by twenty points each time,” he said.
LHS senior Mia Griggs said she really enjoyed playing in the Powderpuff games.
“It was so fun to do it with my friends every year, even if it was a little chaotic. But it will definitely be a core memory for me,” said Griggs.
She also explained how it felt to win three of the four times she has played in the traditional game during her high school career.

“It feels really great to win three times in our career. It was awesome being the freshman and coming in and winning against the seniors. Those games will definitely be remembered for a very long time,” Griggs added.
With the winner’s bracket being the seniors and the freshmen, and the loser’s bracket being the sophomores and the juniors. The finalized outcome for each team was the seniors coming in first place and the freshmen coming in second. And finally the sophomores and the juniors followed in third and fourth.

LHS freshman Claire Coy described her experience with the LHS Powderpuff team.
“My experience in Powderpuff was great, even though we didn’t win. All of my teammates and coaches had a good time too, and I’m glad we were able to do it,” she said.
LHS freshman coach Landon Burke described how his team played, as well as his hope for this group of girls in the future.

“Our team worked together to get the win, and then we went to the championship, where we didn’t do the best. Our team let up a lot of yards against the seniors but through all that we were still able to get a touchdown. So overall, our team did pretty good and I have strong faith in them in the next few years,” said Burke.

LHS sophomore Koewynn Rouge explained her love for football and how fun it was to play in the Powderpuff game.
“It was so fun and I thought it was hilarious watching some of my teammates learn how to play, but also it was really just warming to see them start to understand the terms and how to do certain things, even though we lost. I loved playing and it was fun seeing what it was like to play football,” said Rouge.

LHS student Brett Toronto, the junior class coach, explained his team’s challenges and what he hopes for his group next year.
“I didn’t get them prepared enough; I didn’t show them where to line up on every play, as well as teach them how to properly block, and a lot of the basic football mechanics. A lot of challenges were clock management. It took us too long to get a play called in; we only had 40 seconds to do so. We had success running the football, not so much passing. So for next year, I will prepare them more,” said Toronto.
