Who will win? By now, the whole world likely knows that the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will face off in the 59th annual Super Bowl this Sunday, in New Orleans. Lancaster High School students and staff certainly have strong opinions about who they would like to see take home the coveted Vince Lombardi trophy.

According to an Eye of the Gale questionnaire only 30% of 113 responses favored the Chiefs to win. In addition to the questionnaire, Eye of the Gale also initiated a poll on Instagram (lhs_journalism) 76% of followers hope the Eagles win and 33% favor the Chiefs.
Despite the overwhelming responses in favor of the Eagles, some professional sports experts say the Chiefs will most likely win the Super Bowl.
In an article in USA Today, one expert, NFL writer Jacob Camenker, predicts that the Chiefs will win 23-20.
“While the Eagles’ defense, which is allowing just 18.3 points per game in the postseason, may be able to slow down Patrick Mahomes somewhat, it won’t be able to fully stop the three-time Super Bowl winner,” said Camenker.
In step with Camenker’s prediction, a few LHS students said they also hope the Chiefs will win.

“I want the Kansas City Chiefs to win the Super Bowl because the Eagles fans are nasty and rude, and I like Patrick Mahomes personality,” said senior Bryaden Sargent.
Like Sargent, LHS sophomore Nolan Blake also prefers Mahomes.

“I have been a Patrick Mahomes fan since he was in college and I would like to see the three-peat,” said Blake.
LHS sophomore Calea Hayes also said that rooting for the Chiefs is a family tradition.

“My family has always been a Chiefs fan, we took it home last year hopefully we not only bring back that same energy but more,” said Hayles.
On the other hand, in a USA Today article, CBS sports writer Bryan DeArdo predicted that the Philadelphia Eagles will win the Super Bowl this weekend.
“There have been several notable upsets in Super Bowls past. Each time, the team that pulled off the upset had a clutch quarterback, a physical, productive running game and an aggressive defense that put pressure on the quarterback, thus leading to turnovers. The 2024 Eagles have each of those qualities, and that’s why I’m picking them to win Super Bowl LIX,” said DeArdo.
Many LHS football fans agree with DeArdo. LHS staff member Dylan Sharp said he wants the Eagles to win for more than one reason.

“I am cheering for the Eagles in this year’s Super Bowl. I am tired of watching the refs carry the Chiefs to win after win, and I would like to see someone new at the top of the NFL throne,” Sharp said.

Following Sharp, LHS senior Derrick Tremble said he thinks the Eagles have earned the top trophy.
“The team I want to win the Super Bowl is the Philadelphia Eagles and I want them to win because the Eagles have worked hard and played hard this year and they deserve it,” he said.

“I’m not a big Chiefs fan, so when I saw them win their championship game I was very disappointed. I just feel like it’s time for another team to win since the chiefs have been to the superbowl for the last two years,” said Trimble.
LHS junior Charlie Cooperrider said he wants the Eagles to win mostly because he admires one of their star players.
“I want the Eagles to win because I like Saquan Barkley and because I don’t like the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes,” Cooperrider said.
