Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is a massive hit with a domestic box office earning of $60 million dollars on opening night. The long-awaited third installment of Paramount Pictures’s Sonic the Hedgehog series shows the audience all of the emotions, including excitement for what’s to come in the next Sonic movie.
An unexpected surprise is revealed in the post-credits scene, the audience is introduced to two new characters from the original games: Amy Rose and Metal Sonic and the second post-credits scene shows that Shadow is still alive. Theatergoers cheered at this reveal and showed their excitement for the upcoming fourth film.
LHS sophomore Dawson Wallace expressed his excitement after seeing the post-credits scene.
“It was really surprising and unexpected. I thought the design for Amy was well done and captures her personality, it is an incredible teaser for a fourth movie. As for the second post-credit scene, I was hoping Shadow was still alive, and now I know that he is. It’s gonna be amazing to see him again in a possible sequel” said Wallace.
LHS sophomore Taylor Randolph shared excitement and some criticism on the two post-credit scenes.
“I really liked the Shadow post-credits scene where it shows he survived, but I don’t really like the introduction of Amy and Metal Sonic. Throughout the series, Metal Sonic is meant to be the rival to Sonic, and the fact he was beaten so easily and quickly makes it a little disappointing” said Randolph.
Overall, the students interviewed about the Sonic 3 movie were impressed.
“I think the movie was really good. It has good callbacks to the original ‘Sonic Adventure 2’ game while also being able to stylize the characters and pay homage to the story,” said Randolph.
“It was a work of art; good writing,” said LHS freshman Leola Littrell.
“The movie was perfect and I’d definitely watch it again without a doubt. It was amazing,” she said.
Randolph said she has a connection to one of the most beloved characters, Shadow the Hedgehog.
“Not just because he’s awesome, but also because of his portrayal in the movie and the lengths they go to to try and perfectly encapsulate his character and really paint his story in a beautiful and detailed light,” said Randolph.
Students also said that they appreciate that the film’s producers stay consistent with the basis of the story that originated from the Sonic video games.
“They keep the designs similar and the character’s morals similar to the games,” said Littrell.
“It’s one of the only video game adaptations that actually listen to criticism and actually give the characters good writing,” said Wallace.
Randolph was overjoyed in her overall review of the third film.
“The subtle references to fan media along with the blatant references to Sonic Adventure 2 really put it together to create an amazing and gut-wrenching cinematic retelling of the original game,” said Randolph.
